    "Tough Choices" by Carly Fiorina

Strategy is about making choices. Execution is about making those choices work.

I'd been through enough change to know that good can always come out of it, so I could see the opportunity and the possibilities. My colleagues were unaccustomed to change. It seemed too difficult, and they wanted to hang on to their familiar patterns.

Managers control resources, but people follow leaders.

    Leaders are candid and courageous.

A leader's job is to sense, ahead of others, danger as well as opportunity and to lead the organization to adapt itself to both. Over time the organization would toughen and mature.

What will it mean when people all over the world have access to any information on any device at any time?!

Life isn't always fair, and I was playing in the big leagues. Yet I realized I had no regrets. I had completed my mandate. I had made mistakes, but I had made a difference.

    • The scope as defined in the engagement letter was outdated before the ink dried (so true)
    • The more you sweat in preparation, the less you bleed in front of the client (true!)
    • Edits, formatting, and printing always take three times longer than you expect (my god, sooo true)

    • Don't let your ego be so close to your position that when your position is destroyed so is your ego
    • Feedback is a gift - accept it, contemplate it, internalize it.  Whatever you do, neither ignore it nor overreact to it (No.1 especially when you work for Deloitte Consulting!)
    • Get mad, then get over it (dont panic, be happy)
    • Persistence is omnipotent (i believe too!)
    • Everything before the "but" and after the "try" is BS (that' right!)
    • The best way to lead is to listen (will put into my HBS essay!)
    • "Draft" means 95% complete (especially in partner's eyes)
    • Hospitalization is the only acceptable excuse for not finishing your time and expense on time (especially dont miss your expense!)
    • People = Politics:  Get used to it
    • Drink a lot of water between drinks (so true)
    • An important component of sanity is flexibility
    • It only takes one match to burn a thousand trees
    • Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups
    • Never wrestle with a pig: You both get dirty, and the pig likes it :)
    • Remember what you learned in kindergarten: put things back where you found them, if it's not yours don't take it, clean up your own mess, and share
